How does a shortened link work?

With Linkhawk, you can take a long link (aka destination URL) like this one:

https://www.nytimes.com/paidpost/singapore-airlines/a-contemporary-portrait-of-a-singapore-icon.html?cpv_ap_id=50034739&sr_source=lift_morein&tbs_nyt=2019-Dec-nytnative_morein

And shorten it to a link like this one:

https://www.nytim.es/singapore-airlines/
(Example Link)

When you create a link with Linkhawk, clicks on it will be redirected from Linkhawk to the destination URL you started with.

To do this, we issue a "301 redirect," a technique for making a webpage available under many URLs. Because Linkhawk doesn’t re-use or modify shortened links, our redirects are permanent.
